Plot of the game

The game is set in 1867 Japonska, in the city of Kyo, which is a fictionalized version of Kyoto. Like a dragon: Like a Dragon Ishin free chronicles the end of the samurai era, and the protagonist is Sakamoto Ryoma, a historical figure who played a key role in the overthrow of the shogunate.

Ryoma goes to Kyo on the trail of his mentor’s killer. His only clue is a little known but very effective fighting style used by the assassin. The school that taught these techniques has been closed, but the protagonist discovers that his students have found their way to the mentioned town.

Curiously, although Ryoma is a historical character, in the game his appearance and character are copied from the protagonist of the main episodes of the series, Kazuma Kiryu, and during the campaign we also meet many other characters who are Alternate versions of those in the Modern Series installments.
